Venosta Valley

Some people say that the Venosta Valley is the most beautiful place of South Tyrol. Even Ötzi, our glacier mummy who has discovered a few years ago, has been visiting the valley over 5000 years ago.

The Venosta Valley is a fascinating place, which offers various unique highlights and experiences. It is home to Reinhold Messner, the famous mountain hiker, who lives on his castle Juval near the village of Naturno. Also the river Adige rises here and is meandering through the valley.

Thanks to the fantastic mountain panorama, which is surrounding the whole area, the beauty of this valley is kind of harsh and rich in contrasts. In the north there are the Ötztaler Alps and the Texelgroup, in the south the stunning Ortler mountain range, with snowy peaks all year round!

Along the smooth hillsides you find wide orchards, with the famous “Vinschger Marillen”. The sweet apricots are a delicacy for all fruit lovers.

Already many centuries ago the natives of the Venosta Valley have been inspired to build magnificent houses and do unusual art work. The “Via Claudia Augusta”, one of the most important commercial routes of the Romans, was crossing the valley.

Nowadays visitors will find many interesting historical sites and museums in the Venosta Valley of South Tyrol.
